In a statement to journalists on Thursday, the police command’s spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, said that three pregnant women were rescued from the den, while two suspects, Promise Ejogu, 25, and Aruna Sulieman, 29, were arrested.
According to Edafe, the police apprehended the syndicate after receiving information about a baby factory in the Obodogba village.
“Acting on the information on July 10, 2022, around 7.30am, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department stormed their den and rescued the victims,” he added.
PUNCH Metro learnt that one of the suspects, Promise Ejogu, was a brother of the ring leader of the syndicate, who reportedly engaged in sexual activities with the women to get them pregnant.
According to a police official, the suspects are in custody, and efforts are being made to apprehend more members of the syndicate.

In another news, the Area Commander, Asaba, purportedly obtained intelligence on some suspected cultists hibernating in Mile 5, a boundary between Oshimili North and Oshimili South LGAs, and intending to assault citizens on July 11, 2022.
According to reports, the area commander notified the Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Ali, who then authorized a raid.
Edafe said, “Consequently, a combined team comprising the Raiders Squad, operatives from GRA Division and the Area Command, Asaba, led by the Area Crime Officer, SP Kufre Udofia, stormed the hideout and arrested 10 suspects, recovered one fabricated AK-47 rifle, charms, fake vigilante ID card, and AC&DC black ice confraternity regalias.”
