A man has been detained by members of the Delta State Police Command for the murder of Gift Oloku, a 22-year-old Delta State Polytechnic student from Ozoro, who was killed over an iPhone.
On Saturday, July 16, 2022, the event took place at the Etevie quarters in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.
The dead was allegedly killed with a machete by the suspect, 23-year-old Godspower Adegheji.

The event was confirmed by the Sate Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Sunday. She added that the suspect had been taken into custody.
Edafe claims that the suspect murdered Gift after accidentally breaking his iPhone while they were arguing.
“This is Godspower Adegheji of Etevie quarters Ozoro, age 23yrs, he killed his girlfriend Gift Oloku ‘f’ aged 22yrs in ozoro using a machete after she mistakenly broke his IPhone 11pro max while they were fighting cos she went out without telling him. He has been arrested.” the spokesperson stated.
The Nation reports that the incident began on Saturday night when the suspect accused the dead of being unfaithful after she left without telling him. A argument ensued between them, which ultimately resulted in her death.
On Sunday morning, the suspect brought the body to the State General Hospital, where it was determined that the victim had passed away.
On condition of anonymity, a source said: “It occurred at Ozoro today (Saturday). A man used a machete to bash his girlfriend to death. People claimed he was under the influence of drugs since he rushed her to a general hospital after killing her rather than fleeing.
“I just confirmed that the girl is a student of the school, but the guy is not. Maybe he has graduated. The guy must have been on drugs last night It was this morning that the guy regained himself. After seeing what he had done, he rushed the girl to the hospital.”
A video clip that has been circulating online depicted the suspect getting flogged by a mob as the deceased’s lifeless body was laying on a stretcher.
