It was learned that the charm-wielding man cuts white paper into naira notes and gives them to POS staff members to deposit into accounts.
After transferring their funds to accounts provided by the alleged fraudster, the operators only realize that the supposed money is just papers.
According to the command, there are suspicions that Nweke is a part of a syndicate with other members, and there are currently efforts being made to apprehend other gang members.
The fraudster’s name was given as Chisom Nweke by DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, spokesman for the Anambra State Police command, who announced the arrest in a press release.
“Police Operatives today 15/9/2022 at about 9am arrested one Chisom Nweke ‘M’ aged 26yrs, of Umuawulu, Awka along Amawbia roundabout.
“He confessed to be using charms to defraud POS operators within Awka and its environs.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect cuts plain white papers in size of money and gives to the POS operator for deposit.” Ikenga stated.
