The baby’s discovery was announced by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police public relations officer.
Around ten in the morning, members of the LAWMA team went to the Ikoyi police station to report the discovery.
According to Hundeyin, they were carrying out their regular task of moving waste when they noticed the infant wrapped in a polythene bag.
The infant was taken to Military Hospital, 81 Division, Dodan Barracks Ikoyi by a police team led by the Divisional Crime Officer, who arrived on the scene in a hurry.
After receiving medical attention, the baby was transferred to a motherless baby home in the city.
The infant was fine, according to Hundeyin, who also confirmed that the police had opened an investigation.
Infanticide is illegal in Nigeria and is punishable under Section 327A of the Criminal Code Act, the spokesman stated.
