According to Naija News, the incident happened on September 6, 2022, around 11:00 am at Ibaka Quarters in Akungba-Akoko, in the state’s Akoko South-West Local Government Area.
Abidemi Oguntuyi, the 23-year-old suspect, is accused of stabbing the deceased multiple times and in the neck while she was attempting to mend a rift between him and his sibling.
According to a relative, the siblings got into a fight, and the victim’s attempt to step in and stop it led to her untimely death.
The relative stated ; “The argument degenerated into a scuffle and in the process, the suspect took a knife and stabbed Abiye severally in the neck and chest. Neighbours rushed her to a nearby hospital in the area where she was certified dead.”
On the recommendation of an Akure, Ondo State, magistrate court, Oguntuyi was remanded in police custody.
Later, he was brought up in court on two counts of attempted and actual murder.
The offenses violated Sections 319 and 355 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. 37 Vol. II Law of Ondo State, 2006, according to the prosecution.
When the defendant was in court, police prosecutor Simon Wada asked the judge to remand him there until the Director of Public Prosecutions’ advice was received.
Adeola Kayode, the defendant’s attorney, requested a postponement so he could respond in writing to the prosecutor’s written application with a counter-affidavit.
The case was postponed until October 7, 2022, for the decision, by Magistrate Damilola Sekoni, who ordered that the defendant be held in police custody pending a decision on the remand application.
