At the Wednesday unveiling of a women-based initiative in Abuja, the unidentified orderly carrying the handbag was seen in a number of pictures standing behind Mrs. Abubakar.
Since the PDP presidential candidate shared the photos on his Twitter account, social media has been ablaze with outrage from people upset over what they perceive as disrespect for the Nigeria Police.
In response to the images, the force’s spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, faulted the orderly’s behavior and promised to find her so the appropriate punishments could be meted out.
Adejobi deemed it “bad” for an orderly to carry their principal’s bag, claiming that doing so renders them unable to carry out their police duties.
As long as the police are serious about reforming their system, he continued, such behavior won’t be tolerated.
He stated,“This is not acceptable. We have commenced necessary action on this. We will fish her out and get across to the principal.” Adejobi said in a series of tweets.
“To us in the police, it’s an absurdity and should not be allowed to continue.
“To you, it might not be serious but to us, it’s serious for many reasons some of which are known to you as well. We don’t need any sentiment if at all we are serious about reform.
“My brother, this is bad for an orderly to carry bag for her madam, more so that the madam is not a service(sic) police officer. How does she defend her if there is any attack on her?”
