The musician, who is 29 years old, received the honorary title of Member of the Order of the Niger on Tuesday, October 11, during a ceremony held at the Government House Villa in Aso Rock (MON).
But when Teni was called up to receive her award during the ceremony, she did so from the president without bowing or shaking his hand, and she then went back to her seat.
Online debate was sparked by Teni’s actions because many Nigerians accused her of disrespecting the presidency.
The son of the DSS DG, Abba Bichi, was one of those who reprimanded Teni for her behavior at the award ceremony. On his Instagram page, he posted a picture of Teni and berated her for not bowing to the president.
He insisted that Teni was disrespectful to Buhari and pointed out that Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the director general of the World Trade Organization, and other high-ranking government representatives had all shown the president respect by bowing their heads.
He referred to the singer as a “fat woman with no brains” on Social media
He Stated ;
“Orobo with zero sense, even her excellency okonjo bowed down her head as a sign of respect to the president and commander in chief of the armed forces, likewise other high-ranking government officials. Who are you not to respect the president? This is disgusting and disturbing. Yoruba people are best known for their respect for elders but it got to your turn and you decided to be arrogant”.
