The Flamingos would reach the final four for the first time in the competition.
Due to bad weather, the quarterfinal match at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai was postponed.
Omilana made several key saves to keep the Flamingos in the game, and the game ended in a 90-minute 1-1 draw. In addition to saving two penalties, the 16-year-old helped the Flamingos defeat the Americans.
Early in the game, the USA held the Flamingos at bay, but the game’s opening goal was scored by the Nigerian girls.
At 25 minutes, an American fouled Amina Bello inside the penalty area, and the centre referee correctly pointed to the spot.
Edafe Omamuso gave the Flamingos the lead by sending the goalkeeper the wrong with her penalty kick. Five minutes before halftime, Amalia the USA player made an equalizer for their team.
After 90 minutes, neither team could be separated, necessitating a penalty shootout to decide the winner.
In the end, the Flamingos scored four goals from their extra points, compared to the Americans’ three which made the flamingos qualify for the next phase of the competition which is the semi-finals.
