According to sources, the suspect claimed that his wife, Olayinka, delayed his breakfast in the early morning hours.
He had been informed by his wife that she would serve him food after finishing her morning duties.
This, however, was not acceptable to the accused, who was alleged to have engaged in a heated argument with his wife during which he allegedly pours petrol on her and set her ablaze.
The incident reportedly caused chaos in the neighbourhood as Azeez allegedly warned neighbours against trying to get involved.
“A male passer-by, who was touched by the woman’s plight, had one of his legs burnt while he was trying to save the woman,” a source said.
The mother of one was eventually saved by some locals who requested that her husband take her to the hospital so that she could receive medical attention, As an alternative, Azeez hired a nurse to care for Olayinka at home.
Residents got in touch with her father, Pa Akintade, who lives in Ibadan, Oyo State after her condition worsened.
In an effort to save her life, Olayinka has since been transferred to a hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State.
After the incident was reported to Ibogun Police Division, Azeez is alleged to have fled.
According to the victim’s father, the doctors treating his daughter requested N1.5 million for urgent surgery.
He stated: “Azeez did not request for my daughter’s hand in marriage and he is not ready to do anything according to Yoruba marriage tradition.
“Some specialist doctors who came to examine my daughter at the hospital where she is being treated said we would have to provide a sum of N1.5 million to carry out a surgery on her body because her hands and other parts of her body have been severely burnt and contorted.”
When Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, the spokesman for Ogun Police Command, was contacted by the aforementioned publication, he stated that the operative agents were on the trial of Azeez.
