Sterling missed England’s 3-0 victory against Senegal in the round of 16 despite having started two of the Three Lions’ three World Cup games.
Shortly before kickoff, he was reportedly removed from the squad due to a “family situation,” according to Sky Sports.
As soon as he was informed of the robber attack, Sterling reportedly wanted to return home because he was distraught and worried about his kids’ safety.
Asked if Sterling could return to play a part in the tournament, Southgate stated, “I really don’t know, it’s a situation he needs time to deal with, I don’t want to put any pressure on him.
“Sometimes football isn’t the most important thing and family should come first.”
During The Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, England forward Raheem Sterling was reportedly withdrawn due to his family being recently attacked by robbers in the UK.
England will play France in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
