This was said by the kid on February 28 at his arraignment in Akure, Ondo State’s Magistrate Court.
For the alleged kidnapping, the judge ordered Mustapha and Yisa to prison.
The suspects were detained in February 2023 at Oka-Akoko, the state’s Akoko North-West Local Government Area’s administrative centre, by members of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, better known as Amotekun, and charged with one count of kidnapping.
O.F. Akeredolu, the state’s attorney, informed the court during the session that the defendants were involved in kidnappings and that they had admitted to abducting up to nine children.
He stated the offence committed contravened sections 3(ii)b and 6 of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law, 2010.
Mustapha testified in court that he worked for Yisa, a member of the syndicate doing business in Lagos for a man named Alfa.
According to what he said, the Alfa gave Yisa a magical ring that they used to hypnotize their victims.
“l started living with Yisa after the death of my parents some years ago for survival, and we both came from Ilorin down to this place,” he stated.
“Whenever we want to kidnap our victim, Yisa will give me biscuits to entice the children and lure them to him. And immediately, he would use his charm ring to beat them, they would become unconscious. We normally transfer them ( the victims) to Alfa (in Ikorodu). We have kidnapped up to nine children.”
The prosecution requested that the defendants be held at the Olokuta Correctional Facility pending the outcome of the Director of Public Prosecutions’ recommendation.
In his decision, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni mandated Yisa’s detention at the Correctional Facility.
In addition, he directed that the adolescent be sent to a juvenile detention facility until the Directorate of Public Prosecutions’ recommendation was known.
The matter was postponed to March 28, 2023, for mention.
