The Ogun State Police Command has acknowledged that on March 28th, its officers made an effort to detain the controversial singer Portable.
Recall that Portable caused a commotion in a video that went viral when some police officers arrived to take him into custody. In the viral video, the officers claimed they were coming to arrest Portable after receiving a petition against him.
Portable contended that because he is a “superstar, a federal government liability, and someone who works for APC,” he cannot be detained without a warrant and that the police cannot enter his business and detain him without a warrant.
In a conversation with LIB, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state police command’s spokeswoman, confirmed that officers from the command went to make Portable’s arrest.
According to Oyeyemi, Portable did not show up for the invitations, so the police proceeded to his bar to have him arrested after obtaining an arrest warrant from a court with the appropriate authority.
Oyeyemi claimed that Portable’s father intervened and agreed to bring the singer on or before Friday, March 31.
He also claimed that Portable had decided to raise a disturbance in order to stop the police from performing their job.
Abimbola alleges that Portable has received four invitations to appear in person for questioning as a result of a petition that a fellow musician wrote.
According to him, the police will wait until Friday and then continue to arrest the singer if Portable’s father doesn’t take him to the station.
‘’He is not above the law” Oyeyemi stated.
