On April 3, the kidnapping occurred in the Kachia LGA of the state’s Awon general region, Terrorists abducted the pupils from the Government Secondary School in Awon.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the students were held captive in a dense woodland close to the Kaduna-Niger interstate boundaries until they were able to escape.
The girls reportedly walked for several days until they located a secure area where they could ask for assistance.
The students’ escape was confirmed by the state commissioner for internal security and home affairs, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement on Tuesday.
He revealed that when the state government was informed about the students’ escape by human intelligence sources, Governor Nasir El-Rufai immediately ordered their evacuation.
He said the terrorists were apparently searching the region for the pupils, thus it was critical to take action right away.
The eight pupils, he claimed, had been transported safely to a military base, where they are currently receiving medical care.
Governor El-Rufai hailed the children for their bravery and tenacity in making their escape, according to Aruwan.
