According to reports, the suspect, a resident of the Akuji compound in the Abayawo neighbourhood of the state’s Ilorin West local government area, received the money in several million Naira and in batches as well, a few weeks ago.
Additionally, it was learned that locals, particularly those near the suspects, had voiced surprise at Rafiu’s abrupt transformation into a major spender.
According to local sources, the suspect was responsible for the trouble he had caused himself by going on a spending spree rather than alerting the bank that someone unintentionally deposited a sizable sum of money in his account.
“Rafiu bought houses and cars and sponsored people to the lesser Hajj. Although he was generous to several people in the community, some residents were surprised about his sudden wealth as a POS operator”.
