The purpose of the day is to promote awareness of the value of bicycles as a green form of transportation.
Since bicycles don’t require fuel, he contends that it is prudent for the general population to utilize them now that the fuel subsidy has been eliminated.
He said that increasing Nigerians’ use of bicycles will significantly reduce carbon emissions from autos into the environment.
Adekanye claimed that by doing this, Nigerians will live in a more favourable atmosphere.
“Use of bicycle is economically cheap because the cost of a bicycle is not as expensive as using a car or motorcycle,” he said.
On the health benefits, Adekanye said that cycling, not only improves physical strength but also helps reduce body fat “and keep the heart healthy”.
“Cycling may help prevent and manage medical conditions; helps in improving mental health and reduces stress, among other benefits, ” the sector commander stated.
However, he applauded the efforts of all the organizations and interested parties in furthering the cause of promoting cycling in society.
Adekanye asked relevant parties to keep educating the public about the value of embracing cycling.
