The new categories will start to receive nominations with the show the following year.
The introduction of the Best African Music Performance category, according to the release, “reflects how African acts like Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Tems—as well as the growth of the Afrobeats genre—have become global chart-topping stars and streaming juggernauts.”
Afrobeats, Afropop, Amapiano, High Life, Fuji, and other modern and traditional African musical genres are all eligible for the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance.
