Yoruba traditionalists have requested popular Nigerian gospel musician Tope Alabi to identify with them because he uses their slang.
They were responding to a widely shared video of Tope Alabi using their “word” to minister in a church.
The celebrated musician used the welcoming phrase “Aboru Aboye,” which is used by followers of traditional religions.
Her use of such language at a church drew criticism from many social media users, while others questioned her spirituality.

“Why are people defending what they can’t? The greeting is limited to only the idol worshippers, most especially the Ogboni confraternity. Aboru Aboye; then the recipient would answer Aboye Bosise. If you’re still doubting this as a Yoruba person, please try to greet your parents by saying Aboru Aboye then come back to give me feedback
