Sylvester Turner, the mayor of Houston, issued the proclamation in a statement that was made public on Friday in Houston, Texas.
In honour of the Nigerian Afrobeat singer, the American city of Houston has designated July 7 as Davido Day.

Davido, a well-known artist from Nigeria, has been given a remarkable honour in America.
He declared, “I, Sylvester Turner, Mayor of the city of Houston, do hereby proclaim July 7, 2023, as Davido Day.”
A copy of the statement was posted by Davido on his Instagram story.
Following a sold-out performance by Davido in Houston, Texas’ renowned Toyota Center, the mayor issued the proclamation.

Remember that Wizkid received a comparable honour in 2019 after becoming the first African performer to sell out the Skyway Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the United States.
Wizkid Day was proclaimed on October 6 by Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton.
