CSC Adamu Shehu, the NSCDC’s state-based spokesman, confirmed the arrest.
He said that a group of business owners at Zakariyya Plaza in Dutse who had earlier had their stores burglarized had detained the suspect early on Saturday.
According to Adamu, the suspect was being held against his will as the business owners trapped him.

Adamu stated that the suspect, who runs a key-cutting business, admitted to stealing when he boarded a taxi from Kano State on Friday, July 28, 2023.
According to him, “The suspect joined water vendors who usually slept within the shops and pretended to be one of them.
“But unknown to him, one of the shop owners was suspicious of him and decided to keep a close eye until he saw him sneaking and moving towards the shops, using tools and breaking open one of the shop’s doors and gaining entry.
“The shop owner, therefore, shouted for help from his colleagues and eventually caught the suspect while trying to escape”

According to Adamu, the suspect was found to be in possession of 99 different sets of keys, two iron rod tools, a wheel spanner, a plier, four pieces of padlocks, a folding knife, a mobile phone, a torchlight, an ATM card, and four pieces of sacks used to pack and hide stolen property when the suspect was apprehended.
