The foreign minister of Zambia, Stanley Kakubo, has submitted his resignation letter.
After it was reported that he was seen on camera accepting cash bribes from Chinese contractors, he resigned.
The minister had pledged to Chinese business people in the 2022 video to sell wealthy mineral mines. However, it appears that he did not fulfil the agreement prior to the video going viral.
According to the Lusaka Times, the minister stated he quit because he didn’t want his dispute to overshadow President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration.
Mr Kakubo, however, vowed, “In due course, we will provide the accurate context surrounding the recent developments.”
Promptly accepting his resignation, the president expressed gratitude for his remarkable efforts and his leadership as a minister.

In the widely shared video, two guys are seen counting the carefully arranged cash—both US dollars and Zambian kwacha—while seated beside a table. Although their faces are hidden, social media users speculated wildly that the guys were Mr. Kakubo and a Chinese businessman.
Mr Kakubo is at the centre of controversy for the second time this year.
He was suspected of accepting a bribe last year when he was seen carrying a briefcase as he left the headquarters of a cement company controlled by Chinese people.
The president defended him, claiming that he had received a diary and a calendar, while he denied any misconduct.
