Former US President Barack Obama has expressed disappointment over the outcome of the recent US election, where President Trump secured a victory
Obama acknowledged the democratic process but made it clear that he and his supporters were unhappy with the result due to significant differences with the Republican candidates on key issues.
Obama also reflected on the challenges America has faced, including the pandemic and economic struggles, which have contributed to the current political landscape.
Despite the disagreements, Obama emphasized the importance of recognizing the peaceful transfer of power as a core democratic value.
Obama urged Americans to show grace and understanding, even when they disagree. “In a country as big and diverse as ours, we won’t always see eye-to-eye on everything. But progress requires us to extend good faith and grace – even to people with whom we deeply disagree,” he said.
Obama offered a hopeful outlook, stating that America’s problems can be solved if citizens are willing to listen to each other and uphold democratic principles.
“The good news is that these problems are solvable – but only if we listen to each other, and only if we abide by the core constitutional principles and democratic norms that made this country great,” he concluded.
