Afrobeats superstar Davido has taken to social media to raise concerns about a plot to cancel his highly anticipated December concert in Lagos, Nigeria.
According to Davido, the alleged plot is a direct result of his recent comments about Nigeria’s current economic state.
During an appearance on the American podcast, Big Homies House, Davido advised Americans against relocating to Africa, particularly Nigeria, citing the nation’s economy as being in “shambles.”
His comments sparked a wave of criticism from Nigerians both at home and abroad, with prominent figures such as Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri condemning Davido’s statements.
In response to the backlash, Davido defended himself, asserting that entertainers like him are the country’s “real ambassadors.” He took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his thoughts, saying, “Y’all mad ’cause we the real ambassadors!”
Amid the ongoing controversy, Davido revealed that the backlash has escalated further, with threats to cancel his upcoming Lagos show. He tweeted, “Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria.”
