A young man from Amaeze in Nsukka, Enugu State, has been arrested by the Nigerian Police for allegedly murdering his mother, grandmother, sister, and nephew through food poisoning.
The shocking crime was reportedly committed as part of a money ritual known as “Okeite,” which involves the use of human sacrifice to achieve wealth and success.
According to reports, the young man was lured into committing the crime by a friend who introduced him to a native doctor in the Agbani area of Nsukka. The native doctor allegedly instructed the young man to poison his mother, but the plan went awry when other family members, including his grandmother, sister, and nephew, also ate the poisoned food and died.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation, with many calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice. The Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AfAW) has also condemned the incident, describing the Okeite money ritual as a scam that preys on vulnerable individuals.
The organization has called on the police to ensure that all those involved in the crime are arrested and brought to justice. AfAW has also urged the public to abandon belief in money rituals and instead focus on evidence-based means of achieving success.
