The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, a N500million bail.
This comes after Bello pleaded “not guilty” to an 18-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The charges against Bello border on money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of about N80.2 billion.
Justice Emeka Nwite, who presided over the court session, ordered that Bello must produce two sureties in like sum, who must swear to an affidavit of means and own properties in Abuja.
In addition to the bail conditions, Bello’s international passport was seized, and he was remanded in the Kuje Correctional Center in Abuja pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
This development is the latest in a series of events surrounding Bello’s alleged involvement in a N110billion fraud.
Justice Maryann Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court had earlier rejected Bello’s bail application, stating it had been filed prematurely.
