A devastating auto crash occurred in the early hours of Monday on the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge, resulting in the loss of one life and injuring four others.
The accident involved a J5 Ford bus with registration number FKJ 724 YC and a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number FKJ 746 YC.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident occurred at Ilubirin, inward Sura, along the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge. Preliminary investigations suggest that the J5 Ford bus experienced brake failure while traveling at high speed, resulting in a collision with the truck.
LASTMA officials, with the assistance of concerned bystanders, extricated four victims from the wreckage.
Unfortunately, one individual trapped inside the J5 Ford bus succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
The survivors were promptly transported to the General Hospital on Lagos Island for immediate medical attention.
LASTMA’s rescue team efficiently cleared the accident site, removing the vehicles and spilled perishable goods to ensure the free flow of traffic along the bridge.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and reiterated the importance of road safety, particularly during the festive season.
He urged drivers, especially operators of heavy-duty vehicles, to avoid excessive speeding and ensure that their vehicles, most notably the braking systems, are in perfect working condition before embarking on any journey.
