Nigerian human rights activist and 2023 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused President Bola Tinubu of deceiving Nigerians about his economic austerity measures.
In a recent post, Sowore questioned Tinubu’s claim that his friends had curtailed their luxurious lifestyles following the removal of the fuel subsidy.

Tinubu had cited an example of a friend who had four Rolls-Royces and switched to a Honda as a sign of support for his policies.
However, Sowore dismissed this narrative as disingenuous, accusing Tinubu of failing to lead by example.
Sowore alleged that while Tinubu claimed his friends were downsizing, the President himself had upgraded his lifestyle. Specifically, Tinubu had acquired a $150 million jumbo A330-240 jet, a yacht, and an Escalade SUV.
This, Sowore argued, was a clear contradiction to Tinubu’s claims of austerity.
Sowore further alleged that Tinubu’s close allies had seen unprecedented prosperity over the past year, citing billionaire businessman Gilbert Chagoury as an example. This, Sowore claimed, was evidence that Tinubu’s friends were not, in fact, sacrificing their luxurious lifestyles.
