Suspected terrorists have launched drone attacks on Nigerian military bases in Yobe and Borno states.
The latest attack occurred on Wednesday at the 27 Task Force Brigade base in Buni Gari, Yobe State, where three fighter drones were shot down by soldiers.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar drone strike on a military base in Borno State, which left six soldiers injured.
The attack on the Forward Operating Base in Wajiroko, Damboa Local Government Area, occurred on Monday afternoon, with the terrorists using multiple drones carrying locally fabricated grenades.
A military signal obtained by SaharaReporters confirmed the incident, stating that the gun truck belonging to the army was damaged, and five soldiers sustained injuries.
The signal also noted that the terrorists had initially attacked the base with mortar and other firearms but were repelled by the troops.
The use of drones by terrorists marks a concerning development in the conflict, which has been ongoing in Nigeria’s North East region for about 14 years. The Nigerian military has repeatedly claimed that the terrorists have been largely defeated, but these recent incidents suggest otherwise.
