As President Bola Tinubu visits Enugu State today, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has expressed hope that he will order the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
This development comes amid the Nigerian government’s ongoing dispute with the courts over Kanu’s release, with the government accused of disobeying several court orders.
In a statement by Ohanaeze’s National Publicity Secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, the group expressed joy over the gradual “attitudinal change of the federal government towards the Igbo.”
Ohanaeze emphasized that national peace, unity, patriotism, and sustainable economic development are outcomes of equity and social justice.
The group’s statement reads: “It is therefore hoped that with the Enugu visit, President Tinubu will write his name with gold in the hearts of Ndigbo and all the well-meaning Nigerians, if he orders for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu”.
During his visit, President Tinubu is expected to commission projects executed by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has commended Governor Mbah for his innovative and massive infrastructural developments in Enugu State.
The call for Nnamdi Kanu’s release has sparked mixed reactions, with some Nigerians opposing the idea, citing concerns about national security and the IPOB leader’s activities.
