Two teenage sisters have been arrested in Pakistan for allegedly murdering their father by setting him on fire.
The sisters, who claim to have been subjected to years of sexual abuse by their father, took the drastic measure as a form of revenge.
According to reports, the incident took place on January 1 in the city of Gujranwala, where the father succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Tuesday.
The sisters, who have not been named to protect their identities, used petrol from a motorcycle to ignite their father while he was asleep.
The police have confirmed that the sisters had been planning their revenge for some time, with the eldest sister alleging that she had been raped by her father for over a year. The younger sister also claimed that her father had attempted to assault her on two separate occasions.
The mothers of the sisters, who are married to the deceased, were reportedly aware of the abuse but were uninformed of the sisters’ plan for revenge. One of the mothers has been detained by the authorities, while the other is currently under investigation.
The sisters are expected to be presented before the court in the coming days, pending the completion of the investigation.
