Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 election, has made a bold claim: Bola Tinubu was not elected as President of Nigeria, but rather selected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Sowore’s statement was in response to the alleged threat made by Felix Morka, the publicity secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Obi had criticized the worsening political, economic, security, and healthcare conditions in Nigeria, which Morka deemed as crossing the line.
According to Sowore, Tinubu’s presidency is a prime example of a leader being “selected against the will of the people.”
He argued that when leaders are not elected by the people, they become defensive and worry about criticism.
Sowore also stated that Tinubu’s administration has nothing to offer except insults, which is why the president is more interested in hiring people who can insult rather than those who can solve problems.
This is not the first time Sowore has made this claim.
In a previous interview, he stated that the 2023 general elections did not reflect the will of the Nigerian people, and that Tinubu was selected by INEC through “votes allocation”.
