A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order proscribing the Lakurawa sect and similar groups throughout Nigeria.
Justice James Omotosho declared the group’s activities as acts of terrorism and illegality.
The court’s ruling was in response to an ex-parte application submitted by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi. The application sought to declare the Lakurawa sect’s activities as terrorism and to proscribe the group.
The court granted the application, declaring that the Lakurawa sect’s activities, including cattle rustling, kidnapping for ransom, and attacks on government officials and security personnel, pose a significant threat to national security and public peace.
The court’s ruling also proscribed any person or group from participating in the Lakurawa sect’s activities or similar groups with similar objectives.
