Nigeria’s Minister of State for Health, Dr. Adekunle Salako, has reaffirmed that health workers remain among the highest-paid professionals in the country.
This statement was made during his working visit to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) on Monday, February 10.
Salako acknowledged the economic challenges facing the health sector, particularly the “Japa” phenomenon, where health workers seek better opportunities abroad. However, he expressed optimism that this trend will eventually be reversed.
According to Salako, health workers’ relatively high salaries demonstrate the government’s prioritization of the health sector. He emphasized the importance of continued advocacy for increased healthcare funding, praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to healthcare.
