Former Premier League referee Peter Walton has categorically denied claims of a conspiracy against Arsenal, stating that there is no bias against the club.
Walton’s comments come amid growing concerns from Arsenal supporters, who feel that the team has been unfairly treated by referees this season.
Walton, who has officiated numerous matches involving Arsenal, shared his perspective on the matter. He revealed that even former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had expressed concerns about a conspiracy against the club during a conversation with Walton.
“I can remember having a good, long conversation with Arsene Wenger,” Walton said. “Arsene Wenger was convinced that there was a conspiracy against Arsenal in the refereeing world because of decisions that he perceived to go against Arsenal.”
However, Walton emphasized that there is no truth to these claims. He attributed the perception of bias to the fact that successful clubs like Arsenal tend to receive more scrutiny and attention from fans and pundits.
“I could categorically say there’s no conspiracy against Arsenal,” Walton stated. “But you find the more successful clubs… they seem to have more decisions go against them when they’re winning things because they are looking for every sense of decision-making and so it goes hand in hand.”
While Arsenal supporters may continue to feel frustrated by certain calls, Walton’s assurance that there is no conspiracy against the club should help to alleviate some concerns.
