MTN Nigeria has increased its data charges by a staggering 200%.
This development comes after the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) approved a tariff increase for telecommunications companies, citing prevailing market conditions.
According to the new pricing structure, the 15GB data bundle, which previously cost ₦2,000, now costs ₦6,000. Similarly, the 1.5TB plan has increased from ₦150,000 to ₦240,000.
Other affected plans include the 100GB bundle, which now costs ₦25,000 for 90GB, up from the previous price of ₦20,000 for 100GB.
The price hike has been met with widespread criticism from subscribers, who are already grappling with the economic challenges in the country.
Many have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the new prices, calling on the company to reconsider the increase.
The NCC’s approval of the tariff increase has been seen as a compromise, as some network operators had requested a hike of over 100%. However, the commission capped the increase at 50% of current tariffs.
