A video has surfaced showing the demolition of occupied houses in Enugu State, Nigeria, with at least five people hospitalized after falling from storey buildings.
The Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC) Enugu State Chapter alleges that Governor Peter Mbah ordered the demolition, despite the buildings being occupied.
The demolition occurred in the Abakpa Nike area of Enugu East Local Government Area, where buildings are being cleared for the ongoing dualisation construction of the Enugu-Nsukka Road.
A video obtained by newsmen shows occupants of a two-storey building falling from the first and second floors during the demolition.
The OYC has strongly condemned the governor’s actions, accusing him of attempting to commit genocide against the citizens of the state. David C. Ani, the OYC Enugu State Chairman, characterized the governor’s actions as a “crime against humanity” and stressed that the primary responsibility of any reasonable government is to protect lives and property.
The OYC is demanding an apology from the governor to the state at large for attempting to commit genocide against the citizens.
They are also calling for the contractors involved in the demolition to be brought to justice and for those wounded in the incident to be taken care of by the state government.
