The Delta State Government has demoted two engineers for fraudulently issuing certificates of job completion for unfinished road projects.
The affected engineers, Gabriel Evuarhere and Samuel Nwokolobia, were found culpable of corrupt practices by a disciplinary committee.
Evuarhere, previously a Deputy Director, has been demoted to Assistant Director, while Nwokolobia, formerly an Assistant Director, has been downgraded to Chief Engineer. The demotions were detailed in a letter signed by William Ogolokpe on behalf of the Head of Service.
The disciplinary committee’s findings stated that both engineers were guilty of corruption, dishonesty, and failure to adhere to laid-down procedures. As a result, their next promotions will be delayed, with Evuarhere’s promotion to Deputy Director now scheduled for January 1, 2028, and Nwokolobia’s promotion to Assistant Director set for January 1, 2027.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has emphasized his commitment to ensuring quality project delivery and value for money for the people of Delta State.
He warned that no one would be exempt from accountability and that future offenders would face strict consequences under the law.
