In Zamfara State, a 21-year-old university student Zarah Abubankan Shehu lost her life in captivity, four months after being abducted by armed bandits.
The incident occurred on November 3, 2024, when Zarah, a 300-level student at the Federal University Gusau, was taken from her home in the Dambaa area of Gusau, along with her two siblings.
The kidnappers initially demanded a staggering N35 million ransom, which was later negotiated down to N10 million.
However, in a shocking twist, the abductors refused to release Zarah even after receiving the ransom. Instead, they made additional demands, including four motorcycles and four cartons of engine oil.
After months of efforts to meet these demands, the kidnappers finally revealed that Zarah had passed away and been buried two days prior.
This heartbreaking news has left the university community and Zarah’s family in mourning.
Zarah was reportedly the only daughter of her mother, making this loss even more devastating.
