Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
This move comes after MC Tagwaye, a former member of the APC Presidential Campaign Team for the 2023 elections, became disillusioned with the APC’s direction.
MC cited several reasons for his defection, including the APC’s lack of a proper reward system for loyal members, its gerontocratic leadership structure, and policies that perpetuate hardship on low-income earners.
He also expressed concerns about the APC’s compromised internal democracy, where a few power brokers dictate the party’s direction, disregarding the voices and aspirations of the majority.
In contrast, MC Tagwaye praised the SDP’s commitment to youth empowerment, internal democracy, transparency, and accountability.
He noted that the SDP’s vision for a new Nigeria, where the welfare and progress of all citizens are paramount, resonates deeply with him.
Interestingly, MC Tagwaye was listed as a potential Special Adviser on Arts and Entertainment to President Bola Tinubu, just days before his defection.
His move is likely to cause ripples in the political circles, given his previous involvement with the APC’s presidential campaign team.
