A 42-year-old housewife, Maman Zainab, lost her life after collapsing during a Ramadan tafsir session at a mosque in Gawu, Abaji Area Council of the FCT.
According to eyewitnesses, she was attending the religious gathering with other women when she suddenly felt dizzy and experienced a severe headache.
A resident of the area, Ismail Bala, confirmed the incident, stating that it happened on Tuesday at 11:23 a.m. during a Ramadan tafsir session, which is a traditional Islamic gathering where the Quran is interpreted and explained.
Bala explained that Maman Zainab had left her home in good health, accompanied by three of her neighbors, to participate in the religious gathering. However, during the session, she confided in a neighbor that she was experiencing dizziness and a severe headache.
“She was about to stand up and leave the mosque when she collapsed,” Bala recounted. Other women in the mosque immediately rushed her to a hospital in Gawu Babangida, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The doctor who examined her attributed the cause of death to high blood pressure. Bala further stated that her remains had been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
