A devastating explosion occurred on Karu Bridge in Abuja on Wednesday evening, leaving an unspecified number of people dead and several others injured.
Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion was caused by a high-impact collision involving a fuel-laden truck. A video shared on social media showed several cars engulfed in flames, with good Samaritans attempting to rescue victims from the burning wreckage.
A witness, General Jhamuha, was heard pleading for help, urging people to call the fire service to extinguish the fire. “People are dying, people are burning! Anyone close to Road Safety should call them. They should call the fire service. People are dying, people are burning at Karu Bridge!” he exclaimed.
The intensity of the explosion and subsequent fire made it difficult for bystanders to approach the scene, leaving many stranded and helpless.
The cause of the collision and the exact number of fatalities are yet to be confirmed.
