The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDPGF) has strongly condemned President Bola Tinubu’s suspension of democratic rule in Rivers State, describing it as a grave threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
In a statement released by its chairman, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, the forum expressed solidarity with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the people of the state.
The PDPGF accused President Tinubu of enabling the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to act with impunity in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. The forum stated that the Minister’s actions were part of a script orchestrated by the President, and that Tinubu’s silence on the matter is “golden and enabling.”
The suspension of democratic institutions in Rivers State poses a significant threat to Nigeria’s democracy, national cohesion, and stability, according to the PDPGF. The forum described the move as a “dangerous course of action” that could exacerbate the nation’s crises, deepen mistrust, elevate security threats, and harm the economy.
The PDPGF reiterated its philosophy of “Touch One, Touch All,” vowing to stand united against any attempts to undermine democratic principles. The forum called on President Tinubu to reverse the suspension and allow democratic processes to prevail in Rivers State.
