Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied rumors of his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement released on Friday, Atiku’s media adviser, Paul Ibe, described the allegations as “falsehoods” and a “politically motivated smear campaign”.
The rumors, which circulated on social media, claimed that Atiku had left the PDP to join another party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
However, Atiku’s team has vehemently denied these claims, stating that he remains a “committed, genuine, and loyal member” of the PDP.
In the statement, Atiku reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, emphasizing his commitment to the party’s ideals and the democratic aspirations of the Nigerian people.
His media team accused a Facebook page of peddling falsehoods, allegedly orchestrated by “desperate political operatives” seeking to create confusion.
Atiku’s denial of defection comes amid reports of a coalition to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.
