Staff members at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) have made allegations against Adams Echono, the younger brother of Executive Secretary Sonny Echono, accusing him of abuse of power and sexual harassment.
Adams Echono allegedly hijacked the agency’s leadership, taking control of staff redeployment and using his influence to victimize workers, particularly married women who refused his sexual advances.
17 staff members were forcibly transferred to zonal offices in April 2025, with many being women who had resisted Echono’s advances.
Kolapo Okunlola, Director of Human Resources and General Administration, is accused of backing Echono’s moves and enforcing orders without consulting other directors.
This isn’t the first time Echono has been accused of abuse of power. In 2022, he allegedly redeployed over 50 staff members without official approval, targeting those who didn’t pledge loyalty or women who spurned him.
Adams Echono has denied the allegations, calling them “mischievous.” He claims he wasn’t involved in the redeployment process and suggests that if there were any issues, the victims would have come forward to complain.
