Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has accused President Bola Tinubu of breaching the constitutional principle of federal character in his political appointments.
Ndume claims that Tinubu’s appointments are lopsided and do not reflect Nigeria’s diverse ethnic composition, as mandated by Section 14(3) of the 1999 Constitution.
Ali Ndume cited statistical evidence to support his claims, stating that the president’s appointments are dominated by certain groups or regions.
He emphasized that the principle of federal character is not optional but a constitutional requirement designed to foster unity and national inclusion.
The senator warned that continued disregard for balanced representation could have serious implications, including widespread dissatisfaction and instability.
He urged President Tinubu to correct these infractions, stressing that his comments were not a personal attack but part of his legislative duty to provide oversight.
