The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken legal action against the acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Jarret Tenebe, over the alleged violent invasion and takeover of its secretariat in Benin City.
The PDP is seeking a perpetual injunction to restrain Tenebe and his associates from further trespassing on or conducting activities within the premises. The party is also demanding N900m in damages, including N500m in general damages for breach of its right to quiet enjoyment of the leased property.
The lawsuit follows the forceful eviction of PDP officials and staff from the secretariat on January 16, 2025, which the party claims constitutes an act of trespass and violation of its right to peaceful occupation.
The PDP is seeking a court declaration that it is the lawful occupant of the premises, having leased the property from the landlord, Mr. Ena Agbontan, under a valid agreement.
The party is also demanding reimbursement for securing emergency alternative office space and a daily charge of N5m until judgment is delivered.
