Niger Delta human rights activist Ann-Kio Briggs has criticized Rivers State Administrator Ibok Ete Ibas, appointed by President Bola Tinubu, for allegedly exacerbating the crisis in the state.
According to Briggs, Ibas is “pouring petrol on the fire” instead of resolving the issue.
The activist emphasized that Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains the legitimate governor of Rivers State, despite the recent developments.
Briggs stated that Ibas’s actions are contrary to the President’s intentions and have further destabilized the state.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has also condemned the National Assembly’s ratification of President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it unconstitutional.
The NBA believes that the crisis can only be resolved through political dialogue, not by declaration of emergency.
