A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Chief Bode George, has warned that if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerges as the party’s presidential candidate in 2027, it would mark the end of the party.
According to George, “If he (Atiku) picks it (PDP’s ticket), that is the end of this party.”
George emphasized that Atiku’s pursuit of the presidential ticket doesn’t align with the party’s collective interest and criticized him for not showing true leadership during the party’s internal crises. “If he is the leader of the party, he would have waded into it (the crisis),” George said.
The PDP’s zoning principle, which advocates for power rotation between the north and south, is also a point of contention. George believes that since the north has had its turn, it’s now the south’s turn, and Atiku isn’t eligible since he’s from the North.
“There was eight years in the north, there should be eight years in the south. That is the dictate, that is the doctrine of the PDP,” George stated.
