Nigeria’s national grid has collapsed for the second time in three days, leaving numerous households and businesses without electricity.

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company announced the system outage on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 11:29 a.m.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) attributed the previous day’s partial disturbance to a series of line and generator trippings, leading to grid instability.

A government-appointed panel identified poor maintenance culture and outdated equipment as key factors contributing to frequent grid collapses.

Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company assured that “restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders.” The Nigeria National Grid confirmed the incident on social media, stating “Another Grid Setback Experienced.”

This latest collapse comes after a panel submitted its report on Wednesday, highlighting the need for improved maintenance and equipment upgrades.

The frequent grid failures have sparked concerns about Nigeria’s power infrastructure and its impact on the economy and daily life.
