The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced a partial national grid collapse on Tuesday, citing a series of line and generator trippings as the cause.

The incident occurred at 1:52 pm and led to instability in the grid.

According to Ndidi Mbah, TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, the disturbance was triggered by line and generator trippings, affecting parts of the grid.

However, data from the National Control Centre revealed that some areas were not impacted by the bulk power disruption.

TCN engineers promptly worked to restore bulk power supply to affected states. Abuja had its power restored by 2:49 pm, with other areas gradually regaining electricity.

Mbah apologized for the inconvenience, assuring that TCN is working to prevent future collapses.

Additionally, TCN scheduled a planned preventive maintenance operation on the Ife-Ondo 132kV transmission line for Wednesday, November 6. The maintenance, from 9 am to 4 pm, may affect power supply in surrounding areas.

“This maintenance work is necessary to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the national grid,” Mbah stated.
