Tinubu Government Replies Obasanjo: Use Your Remaining Years To Reflect On Your Failures As President And Head Of State
The presidency has fired back at former President Olusegun Obasanjo over criticism of the current administration, urging him to focus on his own legacy instead of pointing fingers.
Obasanjo had described Nigeria’s economic situation as dire and blamed the “baba-go-slow” and “emilokan” government of Bola Tinubu for the country’s woes.
In a statement, the presidency highlighted Obasanjo’s own checkered past, citing various scandals and missteps during his administration.
These include the unconstitutional impeachment of four governors and brazen illegality, which assaulted the Constitution of Nigeria.

The presidency also noted that Obasanjo’s economic management was not as impressive as he claimed, with the country’s critical economic infrastructure in shambles during his tenure.
Specifically, Olusegun failed to fix deplorable federal roads or expand the national road network.
Additionally, the presidency criticized Olusegun for failing to invest in the country’s armed forces, leaving them ill-equipped to tackle security challenges. In fact, the Boko Haram insurgency began to take root under Obasanjo’s watch.

The presidency advised Obasanjo to use his remaining years to reflect on his own legacy, rather than criticizing others.
“It would be better and more advisable for former President Obasanjo to temper his self-righteousness in his public discussions regarding our nation’s temporary difficulties,” the presidency stated.
